Honestly, this is the first time in years that I've pulled out a controller for PC, and I would gladly buy a new one just for this amazing $15 game. No 'Quick Cast' since 'Focus/Cast' works just as well. The windows integration has been a happy surprise and the dual purpose a worthwhile investment. Personally, I have an Xbox One controller only because I can bring it to my brothers place to play on his console. Amazon has great prices on Xbox controllers that include the wireless USB adapter for PC and function seamlessly with Windows. This is what controllers were designed for - Sculpting a dozen buttons to your monkey paws to enable complex mechanics based on rapid-fire button combos. The movement is standard 2-axis and everything else involves individual buttons/keys for spells, healing, and special moves or combination moves. Hollow Knight isn't a 3D first-person environment that can benefit from a mouse. I hate controllers for anything but emulators and Mario Kart, but as soon as I plugged one in, the game mechanics became natural and easy. Being a 2D platformer, there's just no use for a mouse, and the game's default keyboard controls (which have been well thought out) are reverse-handed using the arrow keys to move and the left side of the keyboard to jump/attack/special. IMO keyboard & amp mouse can't be beat for precise and fluid control on most PC games, but this isn't one of them.
